Math In Roulette Game

Behind all the glitz and glamour roulette is often associated with, there are many mathematic principles that build the foundation of the game and determine if a player reigns victorious or is digging in his pockets for pennies as he walks out the door. The game has always been displayed as a novelty of the rich and famous, but make sure to investigate the role arithmetic truly plays in each spin’s outcome.

The Premise

Where the ball drops in roulette is purely an independent event. This means each spin is not connected to what happens after that action or before it. This is completely opposite of many other gambling activities including blackjack, as the game depends on what cards are drawn every step of the way.

Does Math Work?

Some say yes and many say no, but in my opinion you can’t look at this question entirely from this point of view. Now each number is supposed to have an equal chance of coming out on every spin of the wheel, but does that really happen? Not that I’m a huge player, but I enjoy watching and dabbling in the game and it simply doesn’t occur like that. They are always some numbers that come out more than others. Is this because you have to figure in the force of the human that is spinning the wheel and different people have different levels or strength or ranges of motion? I’m not sure, but while some mathematical approaches may yield fruit at certain times, it doesn’t go that like all the time. If you don’t believe me watch spins over a period of hours and you will discover there is no simple scientific method to beat the game, no matter how intense the research or all-encompassing the formula may be.

What Kind of Value?

Whenever people speak of math in the game of roulette you will always hear the term expected value pop up. In summation, all this means is a player will either claim victory or defeat if they continue on the same wagering path for an extended period of time. Expected value is normally only used in situations where the same thing is repeated over and over again. Roulette is like any other game and the casino still holds the advantage. Therefore, the expected value is very low, but because of the number of players many think it aids their probability of winning.
