How to Play Craps

Casino tables for craps can seem a little mystifying and sometimes intimidating to beginners who do not know how the game works. Learn all you need to know about how to play craps here.

The Rules

When playing craps, there are two dice involved, out of which 36 completely different combinations could come about, 11 of which can be rolled out of them. The one that is most frequently rolled would be 7 since more combinations bring about a total of 7 compared to the other numbers. While 7 could come about six times, five combinations can bring about a 6 or an 8. Four combinations could being about a 5 or a 9; three combinations for a 4 or a 10; two combinations for a 3 or an 11; and one combination for a 2 or a 12.

What are Come Out Rolls?

Whenever a new shooter gets hold of the dice, his very first roll would be known as the "Come Out Roll". If the shooter ends up getting his point after that first roll, that would be a Come Out Roll, as well. And, if the Come Out Roll happens to be a 2, a 3, a 7, an 11 or a 12, one more Come Out Roll will be made, continuing until a shooter gets a 4, a 5, a 6, an 8, a 9 or a 10. Then, according to a craps strategy, the shooter will be known for having brought about a point and will no longer make Come Out Rolls.

What is a Pass Line Bet?

The Pass Line Bet is highly prominent in an average casino layout for craps. This bet is usually the one that beginners make when still learning how to play craps. It is squarely placed into the "Pass Line" mark - in the very center, where it does not hit the line.

Who Wins?

The Pass Line Bet will win if the Come Out Roll happens to be a 7 or an 11 and the player gets paid one-to-one odds or even money for it. Whenever this is the case, the dice will have been said to Pass. If the Come Out Roll is a 2, a 3, or a 12, it will be called a Craps Roll.

Whenever anything else comes out as a Come Out Roll as you learn how to play craps, that amount will become the point of the shooter. This point is always one out of six "box numbers". Then, if the shooter rolls his point prior to getting a 7, the dice will pass, making him win the Pass Line Bet. However, if he gets a 7 prior to getting a point, that bet will lose.
